Once the preserve of the fancy-schmancy airlines only, budget airline easyJet has become the first low-cost airline to offer a credit card that gives you air Miles in return for what you spend on it.
Since its launch in 1995, easyJet has stolen the headlines with its low-cost fares to both leisure and business markets, but now, each time you use your easyJet credit card you can also collect air Miles.
Miles earned are automatically redeemed off your next easyJet flight purchased with the card, with a single mile being equivalent to a penny off.
Currently the card is offering:
- £1 on all UK spend = 1 Mile
- £1 on overseas spend = 2 Miles (N.B. foreign transfer fee applies)
- £1 on flights at easyJet.com = 3 Miles (on whole transactions)
Automatic redemption
Unlike the majority of air mile schemes where only a few flights are reserved for air mile bookings, the easyJet card is one of the few air miles reward cards which automatically redeems your miles against flights whenever you use the card with easyJet.
As such, you'll earn Miles even while redeeming your existing Miles and can get money off other purchases you may make with a flight, such as your hotel room and car hire.
Any leftover Miles will remain on your account to be used in the future.
Anything you buy from easyJet.com in the same transaction as an easyJet flight earns you 3 miles for every £1 you spend. Considering the easyJet website offers partner products in the form of car hire and hotel booking, this could work out very lucratively if you are a regular easyJet flyer.
If you are not buying a flight and just making bookings on their website’s partner products, those transactions will earn you 1 Mile for every £1 spent.
Free flight in the first 3 months
New users of the easyJet credit card will also benefit from a couple of generous introductory offers, including what amounts to a free flight.
When you spend £250 or more anywhere in the first 3 months of activating your easyJet credit card you'll will be credited with 4000 miles in your next statement.
This is equivalent to a £40 flight and will be redeemed against your next easyJet booking.
Also, for every £1 you spend at easyJet.com in the same transaction in the first 90 days of having your card, you will get 10 Miles instead of the usual 3 - this is 10% back for every £1 you spend (up to a maximum £1,000 spend).
Seeing what you've earned
While easyJet Miles are redeemed automatically when you make your next easyJet booking using the card, easyJet makes it easy to see how many miles you have built up through general purchases on the card since your last easyJet transaction.
The easyJet credit card statement includes a section marked 'easyJet Miles Available Balance', which reveals your total accumulated Miles.
Big spenders, fast payers
While rival low-cost airline FlyBe has also recently launched an air miles reward card, with easyJet's huge network of routes and their consistently low airfares, the easyJet credit card is without doubt one of the most worthwhile and remunerative air mile reward cards available.
Just remember that this - like all reward cards - are best suited to big or regular spenders who pay off their credit card statements in full each month, as missing any payments will probably negate any reward you’ll earn.
